More than 1.1 million people across 10 districts in Bangladesh have been affected by severe flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains, upstream runoff and landslides since early July. The floods have claimed 59 lives, destroyed more than 44,000 homes and damaged thousands of water points and sanitation facilities, leaving communities in urgent need of food, clean water, shelter and healthcare.

Chattogram has been among the hardest-hit districts. Oxfam's rapid assessments in Satkania and Banshkhali found that around 90% of households are facing severe food shortages, while 92% of drinking water sources have been contaminated. Women, girls, older people, people with disabilities and female-headed households are experiencing disproportionate impacts, with increased protection risks, disrupted livelihoods and limited access to essential services.

Oxfam in Bangladesh and local partner Community Development Centre (CODEC) are responding with emergency food assistance, cash support, hygiene kits with dignity items and safe drinking water, while planning longer-term recovery efforts, including restoring water and sanitation systems and supporting livelihoods.

As flood risks continue across parts of Bangladesh, urgent support is needed to help affected communities recover and strengthen their resilience to increasingly frequent climate-related disasters.
